The WIN Center, Inc is a non-profit organization 501 (c) 3, that supports the community events, administrative, operations and financial functions of the future Resource Center with Limited Day Services called The WIN Center.
Our mission statement that was for Norfolk, VA prior 2021 has been partially completed.
The mission of The WIN Center was to become a Mental Health Resource Center with a membership. Also provide a local limited day treatment service that is recovery focused and will help an individual maintain wellness while problem solving. vocational training, social (even for introverts) activities, educational resources, and life skills.
We were having our Mindscapes Art Shows at The Freemason Church, entering Art Competitions and participating in Rainbow Raven Friends Art Group. However, with COVID 19 conditions and with our awareness/educational events about art and music as alternative therapies, a bunch of nonprofits collaborated including EVMS at The Norfolk Street Choir Project located at The Freemason Church. The Norfolk Street Choir Project became where we advocated for people living with SMI needs since so many of us experience homelessness due to varies reasons besides the inability to maintain our mental health wellness. Many of us participated so we referred and helped our peers participate at The Norfolk Street Outreach for limited day services including an onsite EVMS interns run free clinic.
To fully support our peers living with SMI to have inclusion at The Norfolk Street Outreach places including The Center with quality-of-life attributes like being able to get our essential self-care needs met. Then still be welcomed to come back the next day if our disability limited us from not being able to use our social skills or problem-solving (including interactions with inappropriate behaving or speaking staff) skills or upkeep our hygiene or we were experiencing uncontrollable outburst usually due to a current traumatic experience. Our volunteer's, majority peers and some help from an intern from Bryant & Stratton started executing GAPS (Goal Agent Peer Services).
The mission of GAPS is "To give our peers a hand up not a handout by collaborating with other organizations with getting our peers the information or items or escort (walking or taking public transportation) to other locations or advocacy they need to complete a wellness goal including speaking at Norfolk City Council formal meetings."
GAPS (Goal Agent Peer Services) is a service we provided in Portsmouth, Virginia Beach, Norfolk, Chesapeake, Hampton, Newport News, Suffolk. Plus, other States as requested or inquired. Mostly with information, advocacy or and copy of sample-prototype of SWAG Aids.
Our brochures was amended in 2021-2022 to state:
Our Mission Statement on our brochures 2021-2022:
The mission of The WIN Center is to become a Virtual Resource Center with a membership that provides a local limited day treatment service which is recovery focused. We will help an individual maintain wellness while enduring problem solving, vocational training, social activities
(even for introverts), educational resources and life skills. This will be possible with a referral
services system and non-profit to profit business services. In doing so, The WIN Center hopes to create an encouraging atmosphere for clients and members, to make living a quality life a possibility (Recovery with Prevention Care) for all those who have been diagnosed
with mental illness and their family/friends (End of brochures mission statement)
The WIN Center promotes and upkeeps an environment that recovery is possible plus customized since we are individuals. The WIN Center is currently a Peer-Run Non-profit around the way organization (we are currently working from different locations to complete specific project goals), for people to maintain living in recovery with a serious mental illness and at lease knows how to maintain their wellness to induce quality living and inclusion. We not retarded. No body is. We just have special needs. Nah, just joking, medical necessities. Also, reasonable accommodations sometimes due to treatment requirements and medication side-effects. The WIN Center is organized and operated by mental health consumers who maintain a customized recovery and saw a need for an educational, social and vocational outlet for their peers that live in United States Mainland (North America) and began expansion from Norfolk, VA. Due to COVID 19 we are going to open our horizons, join the virtue/broadcasting platforms and go hybrid (online and in person). Check out our Activities Page to participate in what we got going on, that's your speed, in your lane, at your level with your tolerance of people.
The WIN Center, Inc. Board of Directors are consumers of Mental Health Services from across the Hampton Roads Area. Previously only across Norfolk, VA. The WIN Center is a Peer-Run Resource Center for all mental health consumers. Our winning team consist of Volunteers, License (Certified) Professionals, Business Services, Independent Contractors, Students and Paraprofessionals.
One of our Board visions is to share our diverse medical option choices, as suggestions and healthier outcome experiences. We share our insight with others to do our part in helping restore, share and insert hope to save people's quality of life. Saving a quality of life can be as simple as giving a helping hand to someone going through misery and darkness despite not being alone or unsuccessful. They can just simply be misunderstood about their needs since its medical not a life choice. An Advisory Committee will be added to The Board in the future too. This will allow volunteering professionals with no history of documented severe mental illness in the US Mainland (North America) area to give their input into the operations of The WIN Center.
